Imilac crater

Imilac crater

The Imilac meteorite was found in 1822 in the Atacama Desert, in northern Chile. Many large masses were found and thousands of small fragments have been found since. Imilac is a beautiful stable pallasite, with nice golden to green olivine crystals.

The most famous, almost cultic place of meteorite impact in the Atacama desert is the Imilac area.

We spent here 3 days and combed out an area as big as a football stadium using strong magnets. Since this area has been searched by quite a few collectors and all the existing technology has been used, we can say for sure that there are only just a very few pieces left.
